Gentlemen,
I understand that the 5th Maharattas Indian Anti Tank Regiment might have enjoyed a brief sojourn in North Africa during WWII. Can anyone confirm?

I think the 4th Mahrattas AT were in Italy and possibly Africa with 8th Div. The Burma Star assoc has the 5th Mahratta AT as being in India and Burma. I guess they could have gone all the way to Africa and back first though. Not something I have seen. Being interested in 4th Indian Div it was 2/5th Mahrattas who were with them in the Desert until 1942. The only online Orbat I have noted has the 5th Mahratta AT with 5th Indian Div at the end of the war, but obviously you've heard they might indeed have been in Africa. Whats your source?
regards
Matt

Matt.
Loyalty & Honour Part 1 lists them as an artillery component of 5th Indian Infantry Division August 1942 - March 1943. I thought that the earlier months might have been in North Africa.

I will have a dig in some odd files I have but no guarantee there will be anything, most of my stuff is 4th Div. Good luck.
