The British 7th Armoured Division

Serving in Egypt at the outbreak of the war the division was known as The Armoured Division (Egypt) before being formerly changed to The Mobile Division. Finally on February 16th 1940 it was redesignated 7th Armoured Division.

Owing to the shortage of units in the Middle East theatre of operations the Division was not up to Establishment as given in Basic Organisation No1. The Heavy Armoured Brigade had only 2 Tank Regiments (1st & 6th Tank Regts) until the October of 1940
