O I dunno - at least a portee can "bug out" a hell of a lot faster than a gunner legging it!
Twenty years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs. Now we have no Cash, no Hope and no Jobs....

The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

My father tells me that some of the bravest men he knew were the SP Bofors gunners of 110 Regiment LAA in Normandy who were tasked with providing atk support for the attack on Mount Pincon as the infantry had lost their battalion Atk guns on hill 112.

Portee 2 Pdrs was a concept well out of date in 1944 - except in extremis.
