There are multiple corresponding entries in Assault Force unit war diaries, but my holy grail is to find any details of the conferences mentioned in the same section of diary (especially if they describe the vehicles by make as well as type:-'B' C.V.C.
The specially waterproofed ‘B’ vehicles were issued to units of the Assault Force during the month, and it is wished to place on record that this issue was carried out without hitch, and without a single adverse report being made. Units of the Assault Force returned to Depots an equivalent number of vehicles not waterproofed which were left in the Depots and took away with them a pre-waterproofed vehicle.
It would be interesting to know if the U.S. forces followed a similar procedure. The most outstanding event which took place during the month concerned two Conferences in connection with the mobilisation of the 21st Army Group. The conferences were solely concerned with ‘B’ vehicles and were attended by representatives from General Staff, War Office, W.S.6(b), War Office, General Staff ‘Q’ and D.O.S. 21 A.Gp. The deficiencies of all units in the 21st Army Group were ventilated by comparing W.E. with holdings and where possible all deficiencies were rectified as far as stocks would allow. Fresh Issue Orders were made out for approximately 6700 vehicles, and furthermore it was revealed that approximately 13,000 vehicles had actually been allotted but not collected by the units concerned.
