Anti-Sub Ship surreal cammo

#1

I've searched in google and altavista for it and found nothing on it. All I know is that it was mostly red and black and used to make the ships harder to hit by a sub and was first used in WWI and was also used durring WWII.

i think you might be referring to "dazzle painting"?

jagged, random colors were painted on ships, not to make them hard to see, but to make it difficult to tell the size, shape and heading of the ship

as a defense against u-boats

Thanks, this is what I was talking about, How often was it applied on the ships. And I take my mistake corrected, it was also used to make difficult to know the speed the ship was going at.

They installed filters on sub optics to defeat these Dazzle Patterns, then I think color patterns were tried to defeat these filters, until later when improved filters were distributed to defeat this, Making dazzle pattern obselete. I think they are/were called mono-cromatic filters.

if i remember correctly, dazzle painting was an idea that came up in world war 1, and was more or less proven obsolete before world war 2

i'm not sure how commonly it was used

It was used on some ships all through WWII. Here is the fine and bestest Cruiser of the war in 1944, she was lunched in 1944 also.

Of course I am a bit biased on the bestest part, although she was impressive.
USS Alaska CB1

Her speed and with her sister the USS Guam they ran anti-shipping raids in the China Sea. 12 inch high velocity guns she was quiet impressive.

But we are talking about cammo. :D
