9th Australian Cavalry Regiment

#1

Post by David W » 12 Feb 2005, 18:41

Has any one got a T.O&E for the 9th Australian Cavalry Regiment?

Also, I understand they had two periods of service in N. Africa. The first from early 1941 to June 1941. But I don't have the date of arrival.
The second; beginning in late June 1942. Can any one confirm these dates?

Thanks.

Were they in NA or in Palestine?

The 9th Cav II arrived in the desert in May 41. Unsure of the precise date, but it arrived during the action in Crete.

The unit joined with the 6th Cav II and was involved in the campaign in Syria. Equipment was Mark VI light tanks and machine gun carriers. The unit remained in Syria until Rommel's offensive in May/June 42. The unit was then reequipped with Crusaders and Stuart plus the ubiquitous carriers.

As regards strength the units consisted of 28 tanks and 44 carriers.

you would seem to be gathering quite a plethora of details on desert units. Are you working on something?

Yes indeed. A Battalion level strategic wargame of the desert campaign up to the end of November 1942.
As you can tell, I am currently working on OOB, Dates of arrival & ACTUAL T.O&e. I have been working on this project on and off for about 13 years. I have achieved as much research over the last 3 years, using the internet as I did in the first 10 using books & documents.
As this is somewhat of an obssession/passion I will leave it at that for the moment, otherwise I will end up writing 20 pages & run the risk of boring you.

Thanks for your input & interest.

Dave.

Is this to be a computer wargame? If so, puh-lease make it playable on the Mac. I've been searching for a good NA game for 40 years, first as a boardgame and then on computer.

Probably board wargame (if I ever get it finished!) because my computer knowledge is minimal.

Well, who knows, I may buy it anyway if it's good. I played boardgames my first 30 years of gaming, and collected them even after I had stopped playing.
