3rd S.A A/C Regiment

I am assuming that the 3rd S.A A/C Reg was initially equipped with Marmon Herringtons in 1941. But did they have the full compliment of 3 full strength squadrons + H.Q?
And, when & if did they upgrade ot Humbers or Daimlers?

Thanks.

Well according to Joslen's OOB for October 1942, they had 55 armoured cars, but the type isn't specified. He gives armoured car numbers across the whole of 8th Army as 188 Humber, 96 Daimler, 212 Marmon-Harrington and 4 lonely AECs. If they had the M/H at the start of the campaign, I would have thought they still had them in late 1942. The authorised strength for such a regiment in the Middle East was 58 armoured cars for the British, so if the South Africans used a similar organisation it would appear they were close to establishment for three Squadrons and RHQ.

Hope that's some use.
