The 76th Anti/Tank Regiment arrived in N. Africa around Dec '41 ?

Had a mix of 37mm Bofors & 2Pdrs ?

Was upgraded to 64 x 6Pdrs around Sep '42?

Can anyone confirm the validity of the three statements above?

Thanks. :)

Sort of.

The 76th Atk Regt, RA, was part of the 1st Support Group of 1st Armd Div, and did arrive in Egypt in early December 1941. By the time of El Alamein it is listed as having 64 x 6pdr guns.

The mix of 2pdr and 37mm guns is less straightforward. At the start of the war an Armd Div had a combined Atk/LAA Regt, which was officially removed by the end of 1940 and replaced by two dedicated regiments. There's no indication 76th Atk was a combined unit, as it joined 1st Armd after the 101st LAA/Atk Regt had gone. Given the shortages of equipment in the ME, especially at this time, I've not going to say 'no way on earth!', but it would be unusual. Perhaps it could be a reference to an attached LAA Bty?

No gjk: the 37mm Bofors was an anti - tank gun. You are thinking of the 40mm Bofors which was an anti - aircraft gun. But thanks for the confirmation of the other info.
B.t.w, do you happen to know if the 42nd Lt AA Reg RA arrived at the same time? It was also part of 1st Armoured Division's support group.

:?

I have no listing of that. I know it joined the 1st Armd Div in Sept'42 but I have the 61st LAA as being in the 1st Support Group at this time!
