Timmendorfer Strand

Hello

I have just come across a card from the Red Cross (on 29.7.45) adressed to a San. Feldw. stationed here;

(24) Timmendorfer Strand
Lübecker Bucht
Ortslazarett V
Haus Kammer C 23

- Can anyone tell me anything about this location?

I have no specific knowledge, but Timmendorfer Strand (= Timmendorf Beach) was and still is a popular beach and spa resort.

"Haus Kammer" might be the name of a hotel, roughly translating "Kammer house" or "Kammer Inn", Kammer referring to a wood by the sea in the area by that name; there did exist a hotel close to that wood, called "Hotel zur Kammer" and there are a few random mentionings on the web, of a Lazarett being installed in one of the hotels in Timmendorf. Source:http://www.omi-schreibt.de/Maerz42.html So my guess would be that this is the place mentioned. It was not unusual to use hotels for all kinds of war related purposes, i.e. my Grandma worked in a camp for children from the bombed cities that was put up in a hotel.

Later the place was used as a high school, but it was very run down so when the school got a new building in 1962, the old hotel was demolished. Source:http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostsee-Gymnasium_Timmendorfer_Strand. Sounds to me the schools location is where the old hotel was at.

If you do a google image search for Timmendorfer Hotel Kammer there are some images available you can save, like this one:
