Sources for POW Information

I want to find out any details about a soldier who was captured by the Russians in Posen in Feb 1945 and released in 1950 at the latest. What institution can help me? The individual is not a family member. (The family prefers to remain silent concerning the subject's WWII activities.) At a minimum I would like to find out the date of release. Where do I turn for help?

I would try the Deutsche Dienstelle http://www.dd-wast.de/index.htm and then the German Red Cross.
