Ärmelband Spanien 1936

Postby JockCampbell41 on 03 Nov 2011 10:43

Hi guys,

As I understand it, the particular Spanien 1936 armband was assigned to be worn by the Panzer-Lehr- and Nachrichten- Lehr- units to commemorate the German participation in the Spanish civil war. Would this armband have been worn throughout the war by soldiers who had been assigned to those units or were they only worn by active members of the unit itself? Would the armband still have been worn throughout the war as the Panzer-Lehr-Regiment became the Panzer Lehr Division? There doesn't seem to be too widespread a use of this armband, at least from the photos I've seen.

Thanks,
JC41

JC41,
According to "German Military Cuffbands 1784-Present" by Williamson & McGuirl only the 1.Abt. of the PanzerLehregiment & NichrichtenLehrabtl. were authorized the sleeveband, and then only authorized on the Dress and Walking-out Dress Uniforms and matching Great Coats (but not the Service uniform!). So authorized issue very small and primarily pre-war.

Ah, I see. No wonder one hardly saw them. Thanks very much - I'm asking actually because I bought a 1/6th scale figure which had a lot of 'extras' including the Spanien 1936 Armelband and I was wondering what to do with it, so it wouldn't 'go to waste'. Looks like there's not really much use for it, unless I do a Panzerlehr or Nachrichtenlehr figure in full dress uniform.

Thanks very much John G!
