Well, you can considere him as an ''Ace'' of the Legion Condor, or as a war criminal, but I only have read he was an importan ace (14 victories in Spain) 8O .

In germany a base and a fighter squadron is called Mölders, the government want to replace the name because Mölders was involved in Guernica.

But was for be (Supposed) a "nazi pilot" as they claimed.

The work of Mölders in Spain, not was throw bombs,
I never have ear associated his name with Gernika.

Hello von thoma,

The Guernica attack took place before Mölders arrived in Spain. I believe the Condor Legion fighter pilot most connected with the controversial events at Guernica was G. Lützow.

Would be a disgust for me, if that's true.
I've always felt a special sympathy, by Günther "Franzl" Lützow.
Always seemed me a great professional pilot, and a chivalrous man.

Hello von thoma,

I am not aware of any written comments by G. Lützow regarding his participation in the Guernica incident. Fellow Condor Legion pilot and author A. Galland wrote highly of Lützow, but he was also considered controversial by many. However the events of Guernica came about, it can't be denied they were a factor in the pursuance of other conflicts. The newly formed 2nd Daitai of the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) flew 'demonstration' flights over Beijing and Tientsin on July 27, 1937, soon after the Marco Polo Bridge Incident began a new China war. I have no doubt the IJA commanders were fully aware of the then still recent Guernica incident and ordered the Beijing-Tientsin over flights in full expectation those on the ground seeing them would get the message.

Guernika was not an exception in Spain. Terror bombings over republican towns occured well before and continuated well after.

Guernika was just a raid between the others. But due to the small size of the undefended target and unproportionnaly high means involved in the attack it became famous.

All observers, the Soviet advicer inclueded, noticed some fighter straffings outside the town borders on scared civilian population leaving the town in panic.

So Legion Condor fighters were not as clean as that, even without mention for commonplace fire over republican pilots bailing out with parachutes...

This is not a prove that Mölders was personnaly involved and it's not a personnal attack. Reminds the very questionnable behavior of franquist aviation in general, and LC in particular way...
