bonjour, Olivier,

you are right , that´s something the CURACOA´s captain didn´t recognize, either, until it was too late ...

it´s your turn again, and, by the way (may I remind you ?), in the "Allied and Neutral States" thread, as well ...

Thanks!
Another not-that-difficult question. Please name the submarines.

hi,

IMO, ... Turkish submarines, inside Birinci Inönü and Ikinci Inönü (German WWI UB II), outside Murat Reis (British)

Hmm... The question turned out to be more difficult than I've expected... :?
No, not Turkish.
Mind two-funnel ship in the background - it belonged to the same country as the submarines.

Well, given the fact that there weren't all that many nations in ww2 with a modern submarine fleet and a very obsolete looking cruiser, my guess is that the ship in the distance is the Swedish mine cruiser HMS Clas Fleming.

So my money is on Sweden, but I don't know the submarines..

OK, next try ... Yugoslawian submarines OSVETNIK and SMELI (inside), HRABRI or NEBOJSA outside,

in the background DALMACIJA ex German WW I NIOBE

You're probably right, pb.. I disregarded the DALMACIJA because of a missing crows nest and wrong bow shape, but I probably used an old picture of her.

According to this link the outside sub is the NEBOSJA and not HRABRI:

Does anybody care to explain to me why those subs had masts?

Yes, that's right.

The links:
http://ww2photo.se/navy/yug/sub/smeli-hrabri.htm
http://www.navypedia.org/ships/italy/it_ss_n1.htm
name these ships as Osvetnik, Smeli and Hrabri. I'm not an expert in Royal Yugolslav Navy, so I cannot judge who is right. :?
In any case, next question goes to Polar bear!

Best regards, Aleks

hi,

next question without a picture ...

Besides the well-known US four-stacker DDs (and their derivatives), there were 3 other warship classes with 4 funnels in WW II.

Hint: They belonged to navies of 3 different Allied nations ... they were ?

There´s even another single ship with 4 stacks belonging to a 4th (also Allied) nation ... but I don´t ask for it ...
