Polish submarine ORP Orzeł escaped from Tallinn in then-neutral Estonia. The Soviet Union used the incident as a pretext to justify the eventual annexation of Estonia?

Ofcourse! The Orzel incident has been discussed in other threads on this forum in the past, so I expected a quick answer :D

I had to answer, because it happened just accross the pool - The Gulf of Finland.
I'm not a navy expert so I must leave the next question to someone more able.

Sorry,

Well, it is a vought corsair and this picture can be found on wikipedia:

Apparently the British roundels were "Americanised" to prevent friendly fire incidents in the pacific

hi,

it's the French battleship LORRAINE in Alexandria as a part of the French force commanded by admiral Godefroy, "neutralized" by a common agreement with admiral Cunningham.

The picture is somewhat disturbed by HMS ERIDGE entering port after a MAS torpedo hit August 29, 1942 (she won't go to sea again)

You're completely correct, pb.

The ship I wanted you to identify was HMS Eridge in the foreground. The BB in the background was hard to miss ofcourse and provided the necessary extra information to identify an otherwhise all to common hunt class destroyer.

HMS Eridge could've been repaired, were it not for the fact that she needed new machinery and to have that installed she would have to be towed past Malta and Sicily to a British yard. As you well know, that was not a viable option in 1942.

It sank a U-boat in Narvik. I don't have time to lookup the details right now, but I already asked this question (without this photo) a couple of months ago in this same thread..

hi, Dreeze,

"Mush" Morton, CO of USS Wahoo, one of the most successful US submarine skippers but a man with a slightly tarnished fame.

Actually, pb, the MOST succesful U.S. submarine skipper. But the incident where he ordered machine gun fire on Japanese lifeboats has indeed blamished his reputation somewhat.
