Did the East Indies troops of the Dutch E.I army get issued with the Dutch helmet ,the broad brimmed straw hat or some other type of headgear? Ranjit.

They were issued both the Dutch steel helmet and the straw 'slouch hat'. Peaked caps also seem to have been common issue during the 1930's. Although devoted to military vehicles of the KNIL, the Overvalwagens website contains numerous photos showing KNIL troops as well. Stellan Bojerud also once had a website devoted to KNIL history with a large photo collection of KNIL troops, but this is now unfortunately defunct.

A couple of photos of KNIL reenactors in tropical uniform with straw hats here:

I understand they were bamboo hats, not straw ones. The KNIL used lots of indiginous material such as Garoet, a sort of cotton, of which uniforms were made that were suitable for the tropics.
The KNIL version of the Dutch helmet had a neck cover attached.

Best to look at "Bronbeek museum" or "Legermuseum Delft"
