Review 'The Secret in Building 26'

Accquired a copy of this title by DeBrosse & Burke. It focuses on the the development and production of "Bombe" type machines by the National Cash Register company in the US. Lots of technical detail on the differences between these machines and the British models. Not intended as a definative histor of the entire US or USN attack on the German Enigma system, but drawing on documents declassified since 1990 and interviews with eyewitnesses it does answer some of the questions raised by other broader & earlier books on the subject. Also several of the early chapters have some detail about the USN understanding of the Enigma system from 1940 & early efforts against it and the US/Brit attempts at cooperation on this matter from 1941 through 1945.

I'd recommend it as a supplement to broader studies of the subject and for parsing out some of the technical details of attacking the German encryption system.
