Anyone know of interview or comments from Bonatz from the 1970's after ultra was publicised?
I know Bonatz dismissed the possibility of breaking enigma machines but I find that curious because he worked with cryptologists many of whom pointed out the weaknesses of enigma before and during the war. One of them developed a more secure machine, sg 39 Tranow was it? Frohlein (a junior) demonstrated enigma could be broken in 1944. Bonatz may well have known about the Wicher case too in which case his dismissal of claims by the Polish crackers in the 1960's is hollow.
Likewise anything ever published on Stummel who headed the communication dept for much of the war. Lived to the 1980's , I believe.
thanks to all

Thanks for that. Of course I am really looking for anything from the 1970's.
A search on your link doesn't come up with any articles. But I can see from references in various books that there were some articles he wrote for the US dated ca 1950, but not yet available. (perhaps these were the basis for his books)

Also check the Friedman collection: https://www.nsa.gov/news-features/decla ... documents/

Should be more reports there

I found a link to stuttgart library with a lot of docs categorised quite well . Includes something Stummel wrote in 1954, so I will enquire.
