For Sale - RARE 10kt Gold "Sous Marin Perle" Free France Pin

I found this "RARE" Officer's Pin of the Submarine "Sous Marin Perle" from Free France during WWII. It was amongst my Mother's jewelry along with some other military pins, badges, and bracelets. I have only seen this particular pin in Sterling Silver on the Flying Tigers Site in Sterling Silver. It was going for $265.00. I am selling this pin to the highest bidder. I received an offer of $264.00 so far and will be sold to the highest price offered by the end of August...Sandi[/color]

Thanks for your silhouette...I turned it around horizontally and it seems to match very well. I also have given you another picture of the pin at a more "defined" light angle. Maybe this will help you in distinguishing the sub. As I said "history," I FOUND this pin among my mother's good jewelry. I do not know where she got this. I do know her first husband, a Ronald Massey, was in the service. I have some other medals and an unusual bracelet that has a "coat of arms" on it and I've been trying to make out the writing under the badge...I can post pics of them also.

Mark from Cleveland, TN...I AM NOT A SOLDIER. I am a 61 year old woman who just happened to go through my mother's jewelry that she left when she passed in 2/2007. I found this pin among some other militaria and have been trying to find out SOMETHING about this submarine, what theater it was involved in, etc., etc., etc. I find it VERY interesting and if you've seen what you called "B.S." BEFORE...it was probably MY original post! I saw the one of Flying Tigers in silver, but have NOT seen a gold one. WHY ARE YOU SO HATEFUL!!! MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO TO THE VA PSYCH WARD, HUH? Why the jump to conclude that I'm trying to "rip" someone off. I don't know where the pin came from, it's says 10kt Gold on the back, it sure looks legitimate and the men I HAVE shown the pin to have been VERY interested. So, as Sergeant Vince Carter would say, "go peal some potatos, Pyle!!!"...that's Gomer Pyle...you "Goober!"

Thanks for the 2nd photo, it shows the boat better. Though the minor superstructures aren´t shown on your medal.
I would be interested to see the rest of your findings. Sure one can tell something about their provenance.
And please note that this is an international forum with members from all over the world. Not everyone is familiar with your US TV - serial hero´s or most likely not nice verbalism.

I also have added a couple more items...one is obviously a German medal, the other is a bracelet made of a stone I am not familiar with and I have been trying to translate what is written around the shield. I believe it is French also, but not sure about the later part. It starts out with "cote sioltnieutckie" (at one time, I DID have it translated, but can't find the piece of paper I wrote it on!!). Again, do not know how my Mother came upon it. It look like "gargoyles" on either side and then on top is this "bent" triangle?? I have some other pins, etc. and will post later...Sandi

This is the "For Sale" section, not the discussion section....but since you posted the photographs....

The bracelet centerpiece appears to have a British or French Masonic-like emblem (?) [I'm guessing....], doesn't appear to have any direct connection to anything military or related to the submarine pin.....could have value otherwise, but you'd need a jeweler/gemologist type....that's not me!

The German medal is a "latewar" 1939 War Merit Cross 2nd Class with the wrong ribbon (close, but for a "1939 War Merit MEDAL")....VERY common and of "low value" ($25/35. US)....

I responded to you initial posts on the other forum....and see "no problems" with your Pin.....the Gold would assumingly be for "officers" (as in the USN tradition).....how you're mother ended up with it is anyone's guess....possibly a "War Bond Premium" or she befriended one of the officer crew.....(or worked at the factory that made them!)... who knows?

No idear of the value....but even as just 10K would have a high gold premium....but that would be a pity!

The reason I'm in the For Sale is because someone in the forum told me to put it in the For Sale if I were interested in selling...which I am, if the right price comes along. Also, thanks for giving the bracelet a go at it and VERY interesting info. As I said, at one point I was able to translate the inscription under the shield on the bracelet and am certain it was French..."cout e siol..." I was able to distinguish enough to do a search in Wikipedia and now have lost the translation, but, yes, you are correct in seeking out a gemologist about the stones...they almost resemble "marble?" As I said, I am willing to sell these "finds"...I have a few more things, but for me it's just SO interesting getting info from you men who were our protectors and heroes. Not to mention...who or what was MY MOTHER DOING DURING THE WAR!!!????lol

THANKS, BILL!! (if you will allow me to call you "Bill")...why and what makes this guy believe this is a fake? It sure looks "REAL" to me!!! And I did take it to TWO places where they were offering cash for GOLD (I was trying to find out info...not letting it go!). Both establishments got on the phone with the "big honcho" and [they] were both VERY interested in it. However, I did not find out very much because it took them some time to locate IT!!!...which would mean that the pin is RARE! Why is "Mark" in Cleveland acting so rude?...just don't get his "negative" attitude??? Sandi

Just to give you a clue how much gold is in this gold medal:

Take a look at the left photo with "333er Schmuckgold 8K", add a few grains and you know how much gold is in 10 K gold. Little more then 1/3 of the jewelry, the great amount is copper and silver.
