Don't know in this case, but "nearly all" original German (or Japanese/Italian/etc.) artifacts were brought home as souvenirs & as "war booty" by returning GIs.... most stuff was usually picked up "at the end of the war"...

Nearly every vet. brought something home (from all nations)... often just "a Luger", some brought home "trunks full of stuff".... others a cigar box full. Big stuff was usually reserved for officers as they could ship stuff easier than a regular GI... and few GIs ever came across what we'd call "really good stuff"... (the rare awards, Generals, A-SS stuff, etc.)... mostly they brought home "normal" awards, patches, armbands, maybe a helmet & dagger or two... and the like.

Most of it's long gone... but alot of stuff remains untouched in attics, closets, and basements... still turns up at yards sales, Estate sales... etc. (1 out of 10,000 of course!).
