Re: ► Photothread: Wehrmacht fuel tankers
Hi ilfil,
thank You very much for Your reply. That´s really interesting, what You wrote. I didn´t know, that cabs of older trucks were retrofitted with new cabs. Please, can You tell me an example. It would be the best, if You can attach a pic. That would be great.
Thanks in advance. Best regards
Bert

The truck shows indeed smaller when you put the pictures on a row
So the picture is indentified as a Mercedes Benz L3000 right?
With kind regards
Bert

Well, let's try this one. But again: I'm not much into the picture with D-B production and probably I'm wrong.

Hi ilfil,
thanks for posting this pic. I think, You are right, that it is the type L 3000. Here another pic of this type out of the book "Mercedes PKW und LKW 1935 - 1945" by Dr. Hans-Geiorg Mayer-Stein.
Best regards
Bert

Re: ► Photothread: Wehrmacht fuel tankers
Hi Bert,
Thanks for the hint. It turned out I have this book too
Interesting, on the same page 24 the picture above is this:
No comments needed, the things here are extremely clear, undoubtedly it is an early L3000 model with typical cab.
Here is a picture from Poland 1939, I think the one on the left (the other is LG3000) is the same early model (if judging from the mudguards shape on the front and the bumper) but with 1938 cab:
It is quitee possible I'm wrong again, perhaps. If so, I'm sorry. Those Mercedes trucks are really confusing to me...
Cheers!

Hi Uncle, uncle wrote:Maybe water carrier (Chevrolet).
Thanks for the interesting pic of the 39/40 RHD Chevy. These were produced in large quantity by GM in Ontario, Canada for export to the Commenwealth countries. This appears to be an umbau with British syle rims and tyres on the back.
Cheers,

Re: ► Photothread: Wehrmacht fuel tankers
You may be right, ilfil. The reason I hedged on that is that IIRC the stock '39 had a split windscreen while the '40 had a single pane. But that was for the USA version so I wasn't sure about this.ilfil wrote:Hi Max,Maxschnauzer wrote:Hi Uncle, uncle wrote:Maybe water carrier (Chevrolet).

Hi Max,
I'm afraid the windshield couldn't be a recognition point here, if talking about 1,5-ton trucks and over, not about light 0,5-ton trucks.
The main differences between 1939 models V and 1940 models W are:
1. On W the upper grille moulding with stamped "Chevrolet" is wider;
2. On W separate parking lamps were introduced, their appearance on fenders was caused by the fitting of the so-called "sealed beam headlights" on Chevrolet trucks too.
Illustrated it looks so:
HTH
Cheers!
