Re: ► Photothread: Motorcycles of Wehrmacht
Hello,
The ebay pic posted by Sturm78 (from 09 Jan 2017) not only shows a very nice INDIAN Model 340 "CAV", but also a nice sample of a French Gnôme et Rhône AX2. AND... behind the soldier standing, on the left one can see a very rare FN TRICAR !!!
The original photo is in my collection; the caption on the back reads: "Der letzte Zug in Lüttich - 23.4.41" (the last Platoon in Lüttch (=Liège / Belgium)). I guess this photo is taken inside the FN factory near Liège.
A very nice photo of different motorcycle makes in use by the German Wehrmacht!

Hello Martin,
Thank you for the input.
Although 'bikes are not my area I do have a few photos, I found I have another two more US twins, an Indian and a Harley Davidson I think,
Kerry.

Re: ► Photothread: Motorcycles of Wehrmacht
Hello Martin,
thanks from me, too, for the information.
Here another pic of a captured Indian used by the Wehrmacht out of the book "Kräder im Einsatz 1934 - 1945" by Horst Hinrichsen. Strange for me, that the text under the pic mentioned it could be a captured motorcycle of the British army, because Britain ordered a lot of Indian motorcycles in 1941.
Regards
Bert

Re: ► Photothread: Motorcycles of Wehrmacht
Hello Bert,
No, wrong. This pic is also in my book. I had contact with Mr Hinrichsen during my research. This combination is in the hands of the SS-VT (or Waffen-SS). They proudly painted a runic SS on the front fender awaiting their regular SS registration number. Also check out their early SS insignia on the field caps.
The motorcycle is definitely an Indian Model 340 "CAV" from the FRENCH contract and delivery. The rest of the French contract was delivered to the UK only AFTER the capitulation of France on 25 June 1940. This batch arrived autumn 1940 in the UK and was past on to the Polish troops fled from France. These 340's were stationed and used in Schotland.
So, due to the chronology, this machine is an ex-French Army motorcyle, NOT an ex-British machine.

I Martin & KerryMartinski wrote: The machine is oversprayed with the standard German Wehrmacht paint and the sidecar displays a tactical sign and, as far as I can read, "Nachschubkolonne - Abt. 550".
I have the same photo in my collection, and i not read "Nachschubkolonne - Abt. 550" but "Armee-Nachschub-Kolonnen-Abteilung 596"

Yes Kerry,kerryboo wrote:Patrick and Martin,

Kerry.
I see 4/A.NachSch-Kol-Abt.596 and this is 4 Kompanie/Armee-Nachshüb-kolonnen-Abteilung.596,
"A" for Army, because this colonne is attached at the 7th Army.

Hi Sturm 78,
it seems to be the type K 800 W. Here two pics for comparing (K 500 W and K 800 W) out of the book ""Von A wie Ardie bis Z wie Zündapp" by Horst Hinrichsen.
Best regards
Bert

Re: ► Photothread: Motorcycles of Wehrmacht
HI Sturm 78,
You are right. But I have read, that the type K 500 W was nearly totally used as a solo motorcycle, whereas the type K 800 W as a sidecar motorcycle. Here two other pics of these motorcycles for comparing (also out of the book by Horst Hinrichsen).
Best regards
Bert

Hallo, my small contribution, This is definitely a DKW SB 350 1938 ........... is my ... probably found abandoned by retreating Germans, near Verona (Italy) in a country house, painted after the war but remain Tracks Wehrmacht paint, which is why I did not do complete restoration but preserve restoration
