Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Regarding George's posting on the last page, the truck should be a 1935/6 Federal.
The same photo can be seen on Holger's kfzderwehrmacht site.
Regarding the 1939 Studebaker, I can verify that it has a coach built body but I have not found yet
who built it.

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Hi Bill, Radek and Sturm
It looks like it was a civillian truck requistioned for the BEF and then captured. It does not have WD wheels and the recovery lifting bar on the front. I see the Germans have repositioned the headlights, when built they would have been on the side of the radiator. It could also be a K4.

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Yes you are corect.
The early WD Austin lorries has civilian wheals to.
On this one are moved the lights from the grill to the nudguards, the bonet sides are incorect.
I thing the lorry is on 100% ex BEF.
Many of this early Austins wos lost by the BEF.

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
I don't want to beat this one to death, but based on further research, I think it is a 1939 K4.
I base this on the design of the cab, the arrangement of the cooling louvers in the front of the motor hood and the
shape of the door mouldings.
See photo below.

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
Hi all,
a very interesting pic with two captured trucks in Northern Africa (Deutsches Afrika Korps). I think these are tank transporters, the right one a White/Ruxtell type 922 (one of the 300 load carriers ordered by France 1st June 1940, diverted to Britain, where they were used as tank transporters), the left one a White type 920 (one of the 145 load carriers ordered by France in 1939/1940, also diverted to Britain, where most of them were converted to tank transporters).
(source of the information: "Historic Military Vehicles Directory" by Bart Vanderveen and "L´automobile sous l´uniforme" by Francois Vauvillier).
Source of the pic: an expired ebay auction.

Bert

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
I was amazed to see the photos by George of Scammell transporter No 1, only one was built in the early 1930s for trials and i am sure the trailer joined a small batch of others to be fitted to 20 ton Scammell pioneers in the late 1930s and have always been under the impression that the tractor was laid up or used for another purpose. However it seems not as the BEF took the whole combination to France and then left it now i wonder what was its fate at the end of captured life. I have put out feelers to try and establish more
thanks again

Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
I will go with Bill on the Austin its a K4 probably impressed, we had a K2 truck for many years and these had a lower body line than the one in the photo in France
Re: Beute- and Umbauwagen
The Austin K4 bodywork is incredibly 'straight' , BEF needs were so great they were taking trucks straight off the civilian production lines and I guess this is one , maybe unissued by the look of it.
