Re: Photothread: German Red Cross Vehicles
Hi Max,
a very interesting pic of an ambulance. Thank You very much for posting. But I think it is not made by Ford, but by its subsidiary company Matford in France. Matford built such light ambulances in 1939-1940 on the chassis of the F 91 A. Here some information about it (source: http://dvole.free.fr/matford/catalm.htm):
"Avant l'entrée en production du nouveau camion 5t et le démontage des chaines des modèles de tourisme, des utilitaires légers dérivés des modèles civils, camionnettes, ambulances, ... sont livrés aux armées ; voitures sanitaires légères offertes par les oeuvres aux Sections Auxiliaires de Transports Sanitaires (SATS), quelques fourgonnettes tôlées pour le Service du Cinéma aux Armées (SCA) au printemps 1940, les deux sur base F91A 21CV."
Best regards
Bert

Re: Photothread: German Red Cross Vehicles
You're right, Bert.
Confirmed in "L'automobile sous l'uniforme 1939-1940", p. 136:
Also, I think on Max picture it is still French
Cheers!

Re: Photothread: German Red Cross Vehicles
Here are a few more photos of such a Matford ambulance. Just sitting in my files, might as well post them here.
Edit: Sorry, the middle photo shows a slightly different body variant.
Also, they were supplied in some numbers with a different body to Spain during the SCW by donating groups.

Re: Photothread: German Red Cross Vehicles
Thanks very much, Bill, ilfil, and Bert.
I didn't think about Matford but the front end is a dead ringer for the '37 Ford V-8 PKW. Then I found this smaller "Ford V-8 Ambulance" below on a site devoted to Danish Army Vehicles. This is small enough to concievably be based on the passenger car. But you guys are correct, The one I presented is a Matford and a Matford it shall be!
