► Photothread: GAZ-AA & GAZ-AAA in use by the Axis or Russia
Has anyone got any photos of GAZ-AA (the 1.5 ton GS type) or the GAZ-AAA GS trucks in service with Axis Forces or Russian Armed Forces in WW2? I have the book 'Trucks of the Wehrmacht' by R Frank (Schiffer) but it has very few photos. The link to http://www.autogallery.org.ru/gazaa.htm provides a few more photos.
However there must have been thousands of the vehicles in use by both sides in WW2 and more than a few photos of them too!. The attached comes from this forum.
Thanks for your help

GAZ-AA
Thanks Guys for all your replies.
As a general observation, it seems that the Germans preferred higher sided trucks to the Russians, that why many GAZ trucks seem to have extra planks added to the rear body to make the sides higher just like a typical Opel Blitz.
Once again thanks

GAZ-AA
One last question; Did the Russians produce all the GAZ-AA or MM & GAZ-AAA trucks with gloss black chassis, wheels and mud guards, or are the photos of such vehicles just showing impressed civilian versions or ones prepared for a military parade? Surely it would have been easier to paint the vehicles in just one base colour?

Hi Larry:
Nice to see you on this forum.
I claim no expertise, but, yes, they numbered in the many thousands and do seem to be a mix of impressed civilian and made for the military vehicles. On that subject, "impressed" may be the wrong description as I would have to suppose in Communist Russia, the government owned all the vehicles one way or the other.
As to the black/green colour one sees so often, that seems to have been the colour of choice prewar from the photos I have seen. As the war wore on, they tended to be more in military green all over. And...as you know so well, the Russians as well as many other nationalities did like to pretty up their vehicles for the big parades. White wall tyres, waxed paint, special colour schemes etc. etc.
Cannot really comment to the height of the sideboards, most of the photos I have show a standard pattern similar to the ones posted here.
I just got back from holiday and am a bit behind but will look through my photo files to see if I can add anything over the coming weekend.
Cheers
Bill

LAH Gaz AA
Hi guys,
Here is a LAH Gaz-AA in Taganrog, 1941-42, from my own collection. It has had a box body constructed on the rear of the vehicle.
This was the very first LAH photo I ever bought!
Cheers
Steve

More GAZ-AA & GAZ-AAA trucks
I thought I would add a few more photos I have found of GAZ trucks by searching this site and others on the internet.
