Re: GAZ-AA & GAZ-AAA in use by the Axis or Russia
Thanks for the clarification. That 1-AP-1 trailer looks as if it was made specifically for use with a GAZ-AA as the body and wheels look similar. When I first saw it I thought it was made from the rear of a GAZ-AA

What is interesting is that the built up sides appear to be of Russian origin, with the numbers painted high up the sides; I thought it was only the Axis that did this modification

Hi,
here a pic with a special truck of a Russian balloon unit. It could be the type GAZ-MM. Maybe there is a special designation for this vehicle (source of the pic: an expired ebay auction).

Hello,
A very similar photo:
Doesn't look like something related to pneumatics. May this be a winch?
Also found other photos of such vehicles:

The rear tub on these GAZ trucks is very elaborate, when I would have thought a simple wood sided body like the GS trucks would have been good enough. Perhaps they are a pre-war design when metal was not in short supply?

In the mud the GAZ-AA seemed better than some 4x4 types; was this because it was lighter?

Not sure about the signs but previously a few members came to the conclusion this was not a GAZ-AA

Yes, on other forum I've been told the same. More likely ex-civilian French Ford.Larry Hayward wrote:Not sure about the signs but previously a few members came to the conclusion this was not a GAZ-AA
