Its interesting that in quite a few photos of beute GAZ-AA's that the new user has found time to paint their own tac markings on the vehicle but not bothered to paint out the Soviet lettering which could have put them at risk from friendly fire?

Hi Larry,
I guess this is an old trick to cheat the enemy. Not unusual approach, I recall StuG III captured by the Russians with slogan "Avenger" (in Russian) painted on the sides and still with German crosses all around.
Cheers!

Old post I know, but I wonder to what use that armoured truck was put?

Hi Larry,
I guess they were 45mm AT gun portees, ZiS-5 with similar armour were used for this.
Cheers!

Hi Larry, hi ilfil,
this armored truck was used as a portee of a machine gun. Here drawings of the two possible variants (source: foto.breeze38.ru).

Bert

I guess the Germans nearly always built up the sides of the load area on these GAZ-AAs to carry more, though I wonder if it was more to stop things falling out on rough terrain rather than exceed the max load on about 1.5 tons.

Hi Jose,
The body is genuine Russian, it could be Machinery A or B and, respectively, TRM (tank repair), PARM (aircraft repair) or PM-3/PRM (vehicles repair).
Usually these bodies have side windows. However, details may vary depending of the body manufacturer, the most obvious difference is in the tool box above the cab.
Cheers!

Hi ilfil, hi Jose,
could it be a Ford BB? The flatbed is absolutely non-Russian. What do You mean?
Best regards
Bert
