New Blog on the Herbert Baum Group

Postby Eric Brothers on 18 Jan 2013 04:36

Greetings all,

I have just started a blog devoted to the Herbert Baum group and Jewish Resistance. My first post is a memoir written by the son of Alfred Eisenstadter. Please take a look if you are interested. Thank you.

Today, February 10, would have been Herbert Baum's 101st birthday. In honor of Baum, I am providing a link to a recent anonymous review written by "pasta e fagioli" which I put onto my Herbert Baum group blog.

I got a contribution for my blog "The Herbert Baum Group" from a woman in Berlin who knew some of the Baum group members before they passed away. She got involved in the Baum group in a very roundabout way. A few years back, she discovered that the apartment in which she lived had been the home of a Jewish family that was deported during the Holocaust. She did a lot of research and discovered the names and personal fates of the family members. One family member survived and moved to the United States after the war. He was the youngest in the family. This woman, Amelie Döge, actually traveled to the U.S. to visit this man with her family. She discovered that he was Herbert Baum's second cousin, and he is still with us at 92! I spoke with him on the phone briefly and he told me an anecdote about his older second cousin, Herbert. He remembers Herbert and other relatives visiting his apartment before 1933, and that Herbert was making fun of him for being a trouble-making little boy. When I relayed this information to Amelie Döge it was clear that Herbert Baum had been in her former apartment. Well, here is a post from her entitled, "A Berliner's Thoughts on the Baum Group." Greetings all. I just got my first "official" review for Berlin Ghetto: Herbert Baum and the Anti-fascist Resistance, which was published in Jewish Book World. I am quite proud of it. Imagine, I began this book in 1983 and in 2013 the first review has come out! Below is a link to the review.
