I am finally able to announce a new MAJOR update of the database. It has been well over a year now since I last made an update, and would I like to thank ALL of those who has provide me with information and photos over the past for their patience – I really appreciate the continued support.

So what has happen since last, well …

The database now covers 23779 generals!

The Japanese section now covers 2711 generals (or equivalents) which I think is close to 100% of Japanese generals between the Mukden incident in September 1931 and the formal surrender on USS Missouri in September 1945. A note on Japanese name reading – As discussed elsewhere on the forum the reading of the Japanese names from Kanji is extremely difficult even for the Japanese themselves because multiple readings of the names, so you may never know the correct name for certain. However I have found it important to provide each general with a Romanized name, so where I have been able to find a Japanese reading of the names in hiragana I have used these, oth-erwise I have tried to provide the general with the most likely reading of the names. I do however apologies for any mistakes.

More than 800 generals are no longer faceless! A new section with 193 generals from Manchukuo has appeared (Not much information on each yet). Otherwise a lot of new information on the Bel-gian (I finally got the exact first names rather than just initials!), French, Italian and Soviet sections – And of course all over rest bits of information has been added.

Please take a look, and enjoy!
Kind Regards

Again, more than a year has passed since the last update. Not that I have stopped compiling infor-mation, and now I have finally made it online.

The database now include 244480 Generals (or equivalents).

A few high lights

Most of Brazilian generals now have exact date of birth and promotion dates.
The Romanian section has seen many new generals and I have added a lot of information on most of them. There has also been added a lot of info in the French and Italian sections. I have also been able to add pieces of information on numerous of the many unknown Soviet generals.

Finally I have also over the past year been able to put a face on more than a 1000 generals.

As always, I would like to thank all those, who has contributed with info and photos. I am most grateful to you all, and I hope you will forgive my slowness in getting it online. I will aim to do bet-ter.
Kind Regards

Just launched a new update. The total number of (or equivalents) registered on the site is now 26724. Information and photos was added in various section, so it is difficult to single some out with the exception of Soviet Union where there has been a large update. In order to cover the purged generals I have now added officers with ranks of or higher than: Kombrig, Brigade-Commissar, Brigade-Engineer, Brigade-Intendant, Brigade-Surgeon and Brigade-Lawyer since the introduction of those ranks in 1935, and the same goes for NKVD officers with ranks of or higher than: Major of State Security, Major of Militia or later equivalents.

Again, I would like to thank all those who has provide information, photos or made me aware of er-rors. It couldn’t have been done without your help – Thank you!!

Major-General Ilin Aleksandr Mikhailovich.

He did not die in battle. He died in a car that was blown up on a Soviet anti-tank mine.

Hi everybody,

Again it has been sometime since I was able to make an update of my database, but I have done so today, so that it now includes more than 28.000 generals or equivalents. Thank you to all who has contributed – every bits of information counts! Again, I would however like to mention two who have given invaluable support: Mikhail Eremenko (Again) in the Soviet section and Giovanni Pinna in the Italian section.

The stats below compared with those above gives you an idea where the updates have been made, though numerous entries have been updated without showing in the stats. A few of the stats has gone down due to the removal of persons wrongly identified as general officers or having been promoted post war.
