The website has been updated once again. This time the new main content is about T-28 and T-34 tanks in Finnish use. Also smaller and larger updated made all over the website are marked accordingly in the main page.

And yet another update has been completed. This time the stuff is an expansion of the previously started theme "Weapons Finnish Army almost had in World War 2". The previous two pages about small arms prototypes and test series weapons are now joined by two pages about infantry heavy weapons and variety of artillery weapons.

Tomorrow is 95th Independence Day for Finland. As in a way of celebrating it, the website has been updated. This time the biggest update is new page about KV-1 and PzKw IVJ tanks in Finnish use. As usual, there are also smaller updated marked accordingly.

The website has been updated. New contents added in this update:

This update contains also first part of graphics update to existing pages of the website. When making of this website started about 10 years ago 800 x 600 was still pretty common screen resolution, but things have changed since, so the plan is to slowly replace the existing low-resolution photographs in the website with better pictures. At the same time graphics of the website will be going through a digital facelift of sort. The first pages that have improved graphics are marked with (UPDATED GRAPHICS) marking in the main page. Also number of photos made available by SA-kuva.fi photo archive have been added to the website - mostly to fill the gaps in those cases when equipment in question have not survived to this day or to illustrate things better.

Thanks, I hope you enjoy the website. I am keeping the (UPDATED) marking usually just for those pages, which have been updated since the last bit update or if there is less than six months from update. Anyway, I like to keep archive of the previous versions, so it was easy to check what I had done and when. The last large update to armored trains section was in summer of 2013, so unfortunately the (UPDATED) markings are long gone. However the updates were basically all to "Finnish Armoured Trains 1941 - 1944" page - mainly I added few new bits of data and some additional photos picked from SA-kuva.fi photo archive. Also, just in case, I like mark in bottom of each page when it has been updated last.

At the moment I can considering the next subject to write for the website, which is these would you prefer to read about?:
A. Hand grenades: Finland had a wide variety of these IMO often neglected infantry weapons.
B. Railway guns: There were three versions from locally built still reasonably sized railway gun to simply massive captured (and unique) 12-inch Soviet guns.
C. Puukko knives, bayonets and entrenching tools: All the various sharp and blunt instruments used by Finnish soldiers for close quarters combat.
D. Finnish Army & Civil Guard uniforms: The whole development from mixed uniforms of Civil War through m/19, m/22 and m/27 to m/36.
E. Finnish tactics: Study about Finnish World War 2 era infantry tactics. Size-wise this is a big one - I have been doing it little by little over the years, it is still under work, but already has over 50 pages of text.

After almost a complete year the website has been again updated. I asked the question about favorite new subject to add in several forums and option C - Puukko knives, bayonets and entrenching tools proved most popular. Hence the new main update is page named "Bayonets and Puukko-knives", which tells the story how bayonet became the standard weapon for hand to hand combat to Finnish infantry, but got replaced with puukko-knives during World War 2. In addition the page also covers other items intended to be used for hand to hand combat from cavalry swords to entrenching tools. The update can be found in here:

I actually did option C already. During the lengthy writing process it developed into latest update - "Bayonets and Puukko Knives" mentioned above.

I am also already working with next update. It is option B (Railroad Guns), which proved to be the second most popular option when I asked the question last year. So unfortunately I cannot pick another subject for the next moment at this this time, since it would require abandoning the work that I have already done for it.

I can consider writing about the uniforms after it, but I'm afraid I cannot promise anything more exact before I go through all the materials I have gathered about the subject at the moment and consider if they are enough for writing something worthy about the subject.

There are also bunch of other smaller updates all over the website, most important of which is graphics update to better quality photos, which is now basically complete. Pages with updated graphics include those about light, heavy and super-heavy howitzers. Various ammunition types (for example if armor piercing artillery shell was capped or not) used are also now listed in more accurate detail than before. I also added three of the formations-pages some photos that illustrate certain points and/or tell interesting story related to matter.
