SS Aufklarungs Meet in Eifel
October 1944
A Sturmbahnfuhrer, Recon Regiment commander gets some first-hand reports from members of First and Second SS Recon detachments in the Eifel area.
The units and divisions are only a shadow of what they once were after the losses in Normandy. In Eifel they regroup and hold the line. In a couple of months they will be fully refitted and on the attack once again in the Ardennes.
In the dio I used from the motorpool, two repainted TUS motorcycles, Plasticpanzer w/ ToySurgeon turret 234/1, Mardon Callanta 251D, DML Schwimm and Mardon Callanta 250/9.
A note on the 250/9, I did not notice the track had rotated and raised unnaturally. I later upgraded the tracks and wheels of this vehicle.

Excellent work , these figures look like live.

The soldier wearing the captured British para beret is a nice touch.
Re: SS Aufklarungs Meet in Eifel, October 1944
Panzer crews were issued black berets of their own in the war. The one on the figure seen in the picture sports a "Deaths Head" badge, if you look closely.

The German tankers' beret went out of use pretty much after the invasion of Poland and in anycase it was really just a cosmetic cover for the protective tankers' helmet which was also dropped at that time. I don't know what that figure is wearing but it isn't a German beret.

Sorry for the delayed response...
The beret used by the crewman of the 234/1 is modeled from the images I include below.
Definitely not regulation and nothing to do with the early German tanker's beret.
I used a British style (from One Sixth Unique) but the one in the image looks more like a civilian beret.
I used a pre-war insignia, because in the pictures it looked bigger than the collar panzer insignia, but not sure.
My images are from a JagdPanther crewman from the JagdPzAbt654 in Normandy.
On one caption it mentions the beret is similar to those used in the Spanish Civil War(Legion Condor) but it concludes it was probably a French civilian piece. The crew was commanded by Feldwebel Carstens.
On the other caption it places them as part of 2/sJgPzAbt654, vehicle 223 which blew up on August 21 1944, placing these images at the end of the Normandy campaign. It mentions they got back to battalion in the truck they posed for the image. No mention of the 5th crewman, but very probable they were shorthanded all along.
The image of the crew on the JagdPanther is captioned as waiting to cross the Seine at Caudebec in the vicinity of Elbeuf.
It is obviously a different day from the other image, and the same crewman is wearing the same beret, so he appears to have been very fond of the irregular piece! Speaking of irregular, check out the non military jacket, with white zipper, under the HBT wrap of the crewman behind the crewman wearing the beret. Never say never!
