Tiger der Division 'Totenkopf' by Wolfgang Schneider

Postby Jan-Hendrik on 17 Jul 2009 04:57

Just received this e-mail by Mr.Schneider:

Liebe Freunde gepanzerter Literatur!

It will have 350 pages in Size of "Tiger in Combat", this time even with 15 pages of colour photos. Pre-order price will be 48 Euro, the Price when it comes to the shops in November will be 55 Euros.

For questions and orders please use SAR[at]tank-data.de

My opinion: will be definitly one of the books of the year!!

Hi Guys,

Let's get this right - 352 pages, of which 16 in colour, and 650 pictures on a single W-SS tank company?

Cheers,

Sid.

Hi J-H,

Almost as extreme! They both seem like publishing specialization beyond any reasonable proportionality to their importance. But then there's a lot of it about!

Cheers,

Sid.

I got my book a couple of weeks ago. Highly recommended! Regarding pages and photos, if the information and material is there I see no reason why it should not be published! We should be grateful that thee are people putting together books like this, I know I am.

Hi D. L,

I agree. ".....if the information and material is there" I ,too, "see no reason why it should not be published!"

However, the mere fact that information exists in enormous detail is not a recommendation in itself for publication.

Beyond pure commercialism, ideally there ought to be some inherent merit in a subject having so many scarce publishing recources devoted to it when there are other more important subjects yet un- or inadequately addressed.

You see such inherent merit in this book, which is fine. Each to his own.

Cheers,

Sid.

It's mentioned twice on their "New stuff" page:

Dec 24 update wrote:GOOD NEWS: To make up for the previous disappointment, we are very pleased to announce that we have completed an agreement to publish in English Wolfgang Schneider's new book on the Totenkopf Tigers. Translation is proceeding and we hope to have it in the first half of 2010, maybe even earlier. Please do not order this, when it is close to publishing we will have a pre-publication offer for it.

Jan 8 update wrote:Work in progress: The volume on Totenkopf Tigers is progressing well; we will have more information on it in about two weeks. Additionally, in about 2 weeks we will also announce another new book, a very nice personal memoir. Two other projects have been just started and they will be announced in 2 or 3 months. All we have to hope for is that the world economy improves and these projects can be completed reasonably quickly.

I guess the whole "first half of 2010" thing didn't work out.
