A review of "Wake Island Pilot: A World War II Memoir" by John F. Kinney has been added to the site.

btw. The idea with these threads are to encourage discussions on the books reviewed so they can be an addition to the reviews on the site.

Marine Defence Battalion commander James Devereux also comes across as a martinet and to put it mildly,a fool,in Gavan Daws' Prisoners of the Japanese: POWs of World War II in the Pacific.

A few tears ago I can in contact with another Wake Marine who ended up in Shanghai(he was a school teacher after the war)but any discussions on his imprisonment was taboo--he was too traumatised by his ordeal, even after 60 years,to speak about it.
