SS Leadership Corps volume 2

#1

Post by Max Williams » 10 May 2011, 11:50

Just to confirm that the images for volume 2 (SS-O'Gruf. F-M) have now been finalised and the finished manuscript is with the publisher. We are looking at later this year for publication and it is literally packed with unpublished photos. I am now beginning work on volume 3 which hopefully will be out before the end of 2012.

Do you know if Bender will eventually sell your book here in America? Is Bender still Ulric's American distributor? If so, we in USA will have to wait a little longer as won't it will take several more months before Bender gets copies to sell? Either way, I'll somehow obtain my copy of volume II. Can't wait to see your latest "labor of love". :D Regards, Duncan.

Duncan,

Contact Aberdeen Books here in Denver, CO. They carry just about any title you can think of in English (303) 795-1890, including Max's Volume I. It's a top of the line military book store.

Best,

James

Thanks for the tip. I have heard of Aberdeen but have not used them. I will look into this as the publication date for Max's book gets closer. On second thought, I might familiarize myself with them now, as I have failed to secure a few books in searches for titles on such websites as abebooks.com. I've been looking for a copy of Halder's rare and slim volume "Hitler as Warlord". Thanks again. Duncan

There seem to be a lot of books with similar subject matter.

Does this series offer anything significant beyond that already published by, for example, Dieter Zinke or John P. Moore? Does it overlap with their work, or go beyond it in subject matter?

Major T.,

I feel that they compliment eachother having owned those by Dieter/Andreas and Vol 1 by Max Williams. "Die Generale der W-SS und der Polizei" Band I-V I consider more technical with an official photo, dates and facts and also a quick reference, especially when you don't have all day to check every SS-Dienstalterliste. The "Leadership Korps" has much of the same but gives more of a story and character of the SS General filled with excellent photos and in Max's books, a picture is truely worth a thousand words. You really can't do without both and also with Mike Miller's and Andreas Schulz SS Generals through Bender Publishing which is great if you can't read the German footnotes in the other version.

Best Regards,

James

From writing a manuscript to a book appearing for sale there are many hurdles. Once a manuscript is written, there are many meetings between author and publisher where any amendments are discussed. In the case of an illustrated book, photograph and documents meetings also take place where sizing, captions, sources, etc. are discussed. Once the final draft is completed, it is then in the hands of the publisher who designs and considers paper, cover format, binding, and printing, plus proof reading and any loose ends which need addressing. After printing and binding, small independent publishers then receive the finished books and have to consider storage, distribution and shipping. So it's all a rather complicated business to put a book on a shop shelf.
In the case of volume two of SS Leadership Corps, there were unforeseen problems over health and the usual printers going into liquidation which caused delays. The manuscript is now finished and with the publisher; the final illustrations have also been decided and are in the process of going on discs which will be with the publisher in a matter of a couple of weeks. Then it's all in the hands of the publisher, book binders and the new printers.

There a lot of books about the ss.
But I do not mind a minute, to have the books of Dieter/Andreas and Max.
