Axis History Forum helped get my book published!

Postby Eric Brothers on 28 May 2012 23:14

The Axis History Forum helped get my book published. How? I had a book manuscript tucked away--hidden actually--when I signed up for the Axis History Forum. I joined to see what was going on with research on Nazi Germany, mostly Berlin, and also anti-fascist resistance in Germany (both Jewish and non-Jewish). So one day I mentioned briefly on Axis History Forum that I had an unpublished manuscript on the Herbert Baum group, who were anti-fascist Jews and non-Jews in the resistance. I thought nothing of it further.

Then I began to get messages--and then emails--from an editor at a publisher. He wanted to see my manuscript! I was shocked. I had no intention of submitting my manuscript ever again. I had submitted it to 35 publishers that rejected it. Then I tried one last time in 1998 to revise and publish it. It was accepted by a publisher in Europe. The only problem was that they were not going to provide an editor and I had to pay them! So for some reason I pulled my book from being published by them. To make a long story short, my book Berlin Ghetto: Herbert Baum and the Anti-fascist Resistance, will be published in August of this year by The History Press. Here is a link to my Facebook page for the book: http://www.facebook.com/BerlinGhetto

I wrote about the 28 years it took to get my book finished, which includes a section on how the Axis History Forum helped, on my blog, Propaganda-Pravda. Here is a link to my post: http://propaganda-history.blogspot.com/ ... years.html Here is a link to my publisher's page for Berlin Ghetto: http://www.thehistorypress.co.uk/produc ... tance.aspx

If any of you have unpublished manuscripts, partial manuscripts, or ideas for a book, then I strongly suggest that you post a brief synopsis of it on Axis History Forum. Publishers want interesting material. There is no guarantee that you will get published, but based on my experience it is worth a try.

If any of you have manuscripts or ideas for books/articles on Jewish anti-fascism or resistance in Berlin/Germany, please let me know. I may be able to suggest a place to publish it. I also know leading experts in the field of Jewish anti-fascist resistance that may be willing to read such pieces.

Thank you, Tom. It still seems like a dream. I began this project in 1983!

Great story! Great idea!
Maybe the admins think about an own topic where one could talk about planned and future books?
I am sitting on three books and especially one is more interesting for the international than the German market. And my first one might be interesting or the international market too, but I will claim my rights for an foreign edition then when there is a real interest for translated version.

Congratulations. Sounds like a wonderful book. I too credit AHF for helping me get a couple of books into circulation. I have made innumerable friends/contacts/contributors of information & images here, and was proud to acknowledge this site and its founder in my latest work.

Thank you Vikki, Michael and everyone else. Is anyone on Axis History Forum doing any research on anti-fascism (Jewish or non-Jewish or both) in Berlin or Germany? If so I would like to contact them.

Thanks.

Eric;
Allright! I will have to give it a read. It's incredible that some people resisted in Hitler's Riech but a great many did.

Thanks, JeffinMNUSA. Please give me your feedback once you read it. I plan to write more books now that the monkey is off my back. If the next one takes 28 years, however, then I will be 86 years old when it gets published! Is anybody else on AHF writing or researching resistance in Germany or am I the only one? Anyone researching resistance elsewhere?
