Books about Ancient Rome? And my current favourite

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this?
I have just finished Augustus; Son of Rome by Richard Foreman and absolutely loved it. In particular I enjoyed the historical insight of the complex political matters of the time. For some reason I had previously avoided books from this era.
Could anyone recommend similar books?

This is the book that I am talking about

I really recommend it, especially, if like me, you want to know more about this fascinating period.
