Submarines and the drake passage.

I really don't know where else to ask this question so I have put it here, Does anyone know of any good books or PDFs about ww2 submarines operating or going through the Drake passage? Was this even possible while surface running without swamping the boat and facing a very cold watery end? 8O In particular I would be looking for any logs or post mission reports or the like of any ww2 era countries subs going through this area, I know that it was possible to do submerged of course..But would it be at all possible to operate there for any length of time? Because of course its all well and good until you have to surface for air…but thats not exactly going to go down well if there are 30 plus foot waves and wind and rain…Anyway any help would be appreciated.
