TOP titles WW2 Armour:Suggestions welcome?
Hello from Norway!
My new found passion for all things WW2 Armour both Allies & Axis
as led me to search out the "best of the best" Books on the subject!
To date I have purchased several titles including the Wolfgang Schneider Titles Tigers in Combat, Vol. 1&2
& several byPeter Chamberlain
I am passionate about High quality Photo coverage with expanded captions, rather than technical wordy studies
so I thought I would ask fellow members for their suggestions as to Books which possibly are head and shoulders above the norm?
and of such High Quality!
all and any help will be very much valued
Best wishes Steve

Welcome to the club
Since I happen to prefer the technical, wordy studies, I can't give the most comprehensive run-down I'd like. Still, I'll tell you what I know.
In a nutshell there are two kinds of books along those lines you could get. One are books dedicated to a single model/family of AFVs, with an emphasis on technical aspects of armour. The other kind are books that look at campaigns with pictures. I'll tell you of some of the best I know of, mostly from the axis side however.
There is the WWII phonebook series, good for any AFVs you have a particular interest in http://www.amazon.com/Panzer-Battlefiel ... 6H1VP7B1TX
Valeriy Zamulin published a photo book on the battle of Kursk with over 500 photographs, and most interestingly, from the Russian side. Expensive, but well worth it. http://www.amazon.com/Battle-Kursk-1943 ... rsk+camera
But my no. 1 recommendation would be the Kampfgruppe Muhlenkamp history. The photos in this book look second to none, and I would buy this book myself if I had the funds to do it. http://www.amazon.com/Kampfgruppe-Mühle ... 6H1VP7B1TX
I will add that I possess lots of books that are not from a photographic perspective that nonetheless have a very good photo collection. I can go into detail about them if you wish.

Hi Pintere
Must thank you very much indeed for your recommendations so much so I have already pre ordered the superb book
Kampfgruppe Muhlenkamp history the cheapest option is the Book Depository as follows:-
http://www.bookdepository.com/book/9780 ... rrency=NZD
That certainly is the standard of book I am looking for.as I have an interest in all thing Tracked-armour books covering more than one type might be the best bet as I can not afford to buy lots of books
please keep the good suggestions coming
Best Wishes Steve

No problem, and apologies for that photobook typo. For what it's worth though, a WWII phonebook would be kind of awesome.

There is the images of war series, for both allied and German tanks.
http://www.amazon.com/PANZER-III-AT-WAR ... war+panzer
Stockpile books has a number of books that go under the heading of "Military Photo Series", some of which are relevant to armoured warfare (just look for the blue books in the search results). But I've added a couple links for books which may be of particular interest to you below. Stockpile's normal military history books are also generally quite good, they would have to be one of my favourite publishers.

JJ Fedorowicz is another of my favourite publishers, with plenty of great photo books on their site. Here are a few which may interest you. The ground combat section on their site in particular probably has loads of photobooks that I wasn't able to find.

Re: TOP titles WW2 Armour:Suggestions welcome?
Don't mention it.
As an afterthought I cannot emphasize enough how much that ground combat section may be worth checking out. I've looked over it now and it really is a goldmine. I've attached some more links to some of the best books I could find, but it goes without saying that there are plenty of other, smaller books I chose not to link to. If you have a specific interest in any particular AFVs, let me know and I can give you some really good suggestions.

Re: TOP titles WW2 Armour:Suggestions welcome?
Hello
Once again thumbs up! super titles and funny the first on "through the camera" I have the villers bocage "through the camera" which is a really fantastic book so I suspect Battle of the bulge will be likewise superb!
I am having to priorities my book list, and to this end limit it to OFF THE PLANET Titles (one offs)
or focused on the TIGER Family of Tanks & whitmann & woll
i found some very interesting TIGER Tank book lists on Amazon and elsewhere and the same book keep popping up so cant go to wrong I think,But the bottom line is must be top notch pics
I know when I bought the 2 x Tigers in combat byWolfgang Schneider & Jean Restayn I was very dissapointed with them as the pics were bloody awful.looked like cheap photo copying!
folk then said I should have gone for the first editions, still you can see just how good they are as books on the subject but picture quality not even adequate.
So if you or any of the guys have TIGER Books if you can tell me which edition contains the better quality pics I would be very obliged.
The following books are now added to my list:-
1.Germany's Tiger Tanks: Tigers at the Front by Thomas L. Jentz.
2.Tiger Tanks by Michael Green
3.Tiger I on the Eastern & Western Fronts (2 Books) by Jean Restayn
4.Schwere Panzer in Detail (Heavy Tanks in Detail)
5.Tiger I and Sturmtiger in Detail
6.TIGER I : 50th Anniversary Commemorative Edition
all feedback appreciated
best wishes Steve

Re: TOP titles WW2 Armour:Suggestions welcome?
I see you are also drawn to the Tiger tank. I don't blame you.
If that's the case there are two books that stand out to me as being ones you might consider. One is a photographic chronicle of the 501st s.Pz.Abt. It's got plenty of great pics at a good price.
http://www.jjfpub.mb.ca/index.php?page= ... t&Itemid=2
The other looks like the ultimate book on the King Tiger. I'm probably going to add it to my wish list myself after looking over it. At 720 pages and no less than 850 photos (some in colour) as well as plenty of diagrams and drawings, I really think you would like the look of this one. I sure do.

The Tank Data Books. Information taken from measurements and inspections of armor in hand at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. (Track fans, you have to visit if you're near Maryland. Or if you're not near Maryland. Ozzies take note.)
