New Book Proves Germany Surrendered Enriched Uranium used in 1st A-Bombs

Fellow members,

I have written a book, actually just released in its 3rd edition, that demonstrates the history of the Manhattan Project is materially incorrect--and in geo-politically/historically important ways. At the risk of being accused of blatant self-promotion, but really desiring to promote this new important history, I include below endorsements that demonstrate the importance of this research and the conclusions from it, so you can be assured it deserves to be taken seriously. I am interested in beginning a dialogue with anyone who wants to sound out the evidence for critical review.

Sincerely,

Carter Hydrick
Author, Critical Mass: How Nazi Germany Surrendered Enriched Uranium for the United States' Atomic Bomb

"...Reads like a gripping drama...." says The Kirkus Reviews. Then it continues: "This book marks a turning point in the history of atomic-bomb scholarship, and no future study can credibly ignore its compelling contentions.... A genuinely original book about a profoundly important topic."

“Certainly leads the experienced physicist to believe.”
Dr. Delmar Bergen, retired (wrote forward to Critical Mass, third edition)
Director, Nuclear Weapons Program
Los Alamos National Laboratory

“The assertion in Critical Mass that the uranium surrendered to U.S. authorities onboard the German submarine U-234 was enriched U-235 [enriched uranium] is certainly a credible conclusion in view of the storage, containment and prevailing shipping conditions.”
Dr. Gary Sandquist
Former Instructor of Nuclear Engineering
United States Military Academy, West Point

"Critical Mass brings to the surface defining new information, long hidden within archives, about the birth of the Atomic Bomb…. Should be in every library."
D. Ray Smith
Oak Ridge National Laboratory On-site Historian

“This is a fascinating book…with excellent primary source research.”
Joe Sills
Former United Nations spokesperson

“Critical Mass offers the scholar of modern history and the World War Two history buff important new information about the race for the atomic bomb. Its conclusions, based on primary sources, that the Manhattan Project used atomic bomb components received from Nazi Germany in the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, appear plausible and logical.
Hydrick’s well-written account provides lucid understanding of hitherto unknown and important aspects of the birth of the Nuclear Age.”
Dr. Anthony Stranges
Professor of Modern Military Science and Technology
Texas A&M University

“This book is a well-researched, well-reasoned, well-written persuasive argument for a revised interpretation of an important, perhaps even critical, chapter in our modern history. It deserves a careful reading and to be taken seriously by both scholars and laymen alike.”
Dr. Douglas F. Tobler
Professor of Modern German History, Emeritus
Brigham Young University

“Compelling … as gripping as good fiction. Hydrick's book is important history well written.”
Tony Hillerman
New York Times Best Selling Author
Retired Journalism Professor

This fct is mentioned in different German programmes on Hitler's atom research programme...

Also that the Germans actually DID have the A-bom and performed tests in Thuringia

This was discussed over and over these last years. There war even what looked like pretty serious work by some authors - with the idea of proving the A-bom thing, of course - but even them admit data are unreliable and extremely patchy. An A-bomb test, even of a prototype, is not something small and that most fail to notice.

Note that the idea of a "nuclear weapon", whatever these words meant, was not something that only a few scientists talked about. Allied intelligence reports occasionally mention such rumors after interrogating German PoWs. Contemporary authors who can't offer more than hearsay (and serious ones do admit it's just hearsay) have probably not realized "nuclear" was just a common rumor when it came to miracle weapons.

In a recently broadcasted "Universum History - Die Suche nach Hitlers Atombombe" programme on Austrian state ORF 2 channel the soviet sources are quoted, on how Nazis performed two A-bomb tests close to the end of war(at approx. 09:30), and how Soviet agents reported on preparations for such tests already in November 1944:

Also thy show an interview with Soviet atomic expert Sergej Lev Davidow, who comments on hwo precise information were. The programem is in German, but non-German speakers may also read the documents in English that were shown, or hear original English sound of persons being interviewed.

There is also the story of German submarine destined for Japan that surrendered, and had a large quantity of uranium onboard.

Here's the original ORF's announcement for this programme:

Universum History

I'm afraid a TV show, even a serious one, does not qualify for research (go check their sources!).

I can tell you one thing - programmes broadcasted in German ZDF channel's "Geschichte" and ORF's "Universum History" ARE quite well founded, and not full of the factual errors like crap one can see at the "Discovery" or "National Geographic". This programme lists at the end three experts as "Wissenschaftliche Beratung" (scientific advisory). After all, it's the sources they quote - and persons interviewd - that matter. And their own exploration at the locations in Austria, previously unknown
