I'll second that series, it's one I also hope to get one day. As far as English language books go there is a good one on the RKT's of the Fallschirmjäger and the Oak Leaves recipients. The exact titles have already been linked to. Plus the two by Obermaier have both English and German text as does the Kampflieger one. Are you more interested in Luftwaffe, Heer, Kriegsmarine or WSS?Forward00 wrote:krichter33 wrote:Mooney's series Waffen SS Knights and their Battles, (I know, the title makes eyes roll) is actually a very good series that does talk a lot about the winners and how they won their decorations. There are four volumes so far, and it's chronological. Look it up on Amazon and read the reviews....

This is out in a few weeks, and lists 2,000 officers who were given combat decorations by Adolf Hitler.
Also, the second volume of Michael D. Miller's book is out in April, with two more volumes to follow in late 2017 and 2018.

How do you rate Franz Kurowskis 3 books below? Amazon reviews are not looking goodhucks216 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2017, 12:13I have items 3 & 5. Number 3 provides a basic level of information such as date of birth, date of death, promotions and awards won but doesn't have the units served in or photos. That cd-rom is now available in book form and does have photos in it.smetanin albert wrote:Did you see any DVD/CD-Rom?
What do you think about it?
1)Eichenlaubträger im Bild 1940 - 1945. 912 Bilder.
2)Kwasny A., Kwasny G., Die Eichenlaubträger 1940-1945 (CD), Deutsches Wehrkundearchiv, Lage-Waddenhausen, 2001.
3)Miller M.: Knight’s Cross Holders of the SS & German Police, 1940-1945. Self-published CD-Rom, 2009.
4)Photos Ritterkreuzträger Teil 1 880 Fotos, über 200 in Farbe.
5)Ordensträger (CD-Rom) - Lists the holders of Anerkennungsurkunde, DKiG & DKiS, RK-EL-Schw-Brill, Ehrenpokal, Ehrentafelspange, Ehrenblattspange, NKSiG, RK-Kriegsverdienstkreuz, Großkreuz.
6)Ritterkreuzträger II 709 neue Fotos, viele Farbaufnahmen. Berichtigungen zum Teil 1.
Number 5 is just a list of winners of each award and the date and unit served in at the time of the award, no more and no less.

Re: Knights Cross Winners
This is not my area of focus, so my question on books like these are such:
After reading several they help in understanding the actions and culture of the organization or do they end up being "side" information? The Totenkopf series and the Mooney WSS Knights and their Battles in particular- does it enhance the understanding of the division or is it negligible and not worth the effort?
Also, how do the books on individual members of the S.A., S.S. help in understanding the phenomena of the organization?
