Hi,

Is there a documentary about (or featuring) the Third Battle of Kharkov (1943)? The only thing I can find are videos like these:

Interesting footage, but it's sadly of low quality.

Sadly none that I know of. Some chapters of the eastern front will be forever confined to books unfortunately.

Weird, isn't? For example, the Third Battle of Kharkov is overall ≈4/5 larger on military strength compared to Operation Market Garden, which has dozens of documentaries about it. (nothing wrong with that ofcourse).

Given that 95% of all surviving German combat footage is shown in these newsreels you will never find a 'documentary' with better coverage then the newsreels. Find all the newsreels that show it and you have the most complete collection of German Kharkov footage.

It's not only about the footage, but also about all the information about the battle. That's way more interesting than reading it from Wikipedia.

Soviet military history classifies it differently- Operation Gallop and Star.

That is just the tip of the iceberg. Because the Eastern front did not involve any English speaking countries the amount of material on virtually every battle except a few such as Kursk, Stalingrad and Moscow will always be less than a battle on the western front. And it doesn't matter at all how many men were involved. Here's just one example. Operation Kutuzov involved over 1,500,000 troops and 3,000 tanks whereas the battle of the bulge had only just over 1,000,000 men and 2,500 tanks at its peak. The former battle gets 54,000 hits on a google search and the latter has 678,000.

Two good books from the german side:

Befehl des Gewissens

Die Stabilisierung der Ostfront nach Stalingrad: Mansteins Gegenschlag zwischen Donez und Dnjepr im Frühjahr 1943

The second one is really a gem for everyone interested in Eastern Front Battles!!

Understandble, but very unfortunate for the people who are also interested in the German armed forces.
