Can you recommend some (preferably German) books about the Siherheitsdienst of the SS (SD) ?

Thanks in advance.

Books about the SD

I believe Banach's book has yet to be translated from the German.
I would recommend George Browder's "Hitler's Enforcers" (not the James Lucas book by the same title). And also, Browder's "Foundations of the Nazi Police State. They are both a bit pricey so look out for them at your used bookstore.
Cheers!

Wildt's book mentioned above was translated into English as "An Uncompromising Generation: The Nazi Party Leadership Main Office"
Really good book.

No. It is the translation of

Generation des Unbedingten. Das Führungskorps des Reichssicherheitshauptamtes.

Oops. Thanks for the correction. Yes, it
is a book on the RSHA, not SD. Sorry. I saw the author's name and made an assumption I shouldn't have.

The Wildt translation is, as Boby writes, half the size of the German original. And therefore only half as good.
The same with the American (rather than English) translation of Danuta Czech "Kalendarium: Auschwitz", also chopped to half by translation.
