Finally – an update!

Lots of information has been added with more than 600 new generals. The database now contains more than 22000 generals. Although I have updated thousand of entries from several nations, then some of the major changes have been in the Canadian, Chinese, Italian, Japanese and American sections. More than 200 generals has recieved a face.

Matteus,
Sorry for this late reply! Igakura Tetsuo is in fact Ikagura Tetsuruo. I forgot to correct the file name, still not corrected

The double entry for Timberlake has been removed.
Kind Regards

Hello Steen,

many thanks for the update.

the picture for Kolossváry Imre seems to be missing http://generals.dk/general/Kolossv%C3%A ... ngary.html

as for pictures of a few french generals you may want to look at the book of Lattre de Tassigny "Histoire de la Première Armée française Rhin et Danube" . If i remember correctly there are some images which are not on your website yet.

kind regards,
Matteus

Hi everybody,

Finally an update!!! This time a very large one.

The database now contains 22620 Generals and I have added more than a thousand portraits. I have added generals from the Italian Air Force and I have stated on the generals from the French Air Force. Beside this, then lots of the generals in the Chinese, Italian and Soviet sections have received more information.

Then most importantly I have now made exact dates of birth, death, promotions and assignments visible. I am well aware of the danger of adding dates – so please have in mind that different sources is seldom in agreement on exact dates when it comes to when an general took up a particular assignment. I still need a lot of verification to do.

However enjoy!
Kind Regards

Umm I think there is an error with the John George Concanon Wales file as he would currently be 128 years old if correct however he died in 1967 aged 81.

Also Ivan Stuart Wilson died in 1963...

Oh - I should mention that I made the dates visible where I know them. I didn't know Wales year of death, which is why it is blank. I do now - thank you.

I will track down a few more and get them out of the way as well...

Brigadier Donald Dobson:
http://muse.aucklandmuseum.com/database ... 127.detail
Date of Death 27 December 1975.
(from Personnel file)
http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/Vie ... e=20997553

William Walther Dove:
Date of Death 1976
http://muse.aucklandmuseum.com/database ... t_logic=or

This should leave 4 missing that I can not currently find but I can call in and find out when I get time next week.
Gower, Brigadier John
King, Brigadier Thomas Joseph
Maxwell, Brigadier Douglas Todd
Page, Brigadier John Russell

The entry for Page, Brigadier John Russell appears to be incorrect I suspect you mean Brigadier James Russell Page:1908-1985

The entry for Brigadier John Gower also appears to be incorrect as he is listed in the NZ war dairies as Brigadier G.W. Gower (I can not find what G.W. stands for though) however information I can find matches him as does the picture...

Brig G. W. Gower, CBE, ED, m.i.d.; Hamilton; born Invercargill, 15 Apr 1887; surgeon; medical officer, 1 NZEF, 1915–19; surgeon, Christchurch Military Hospital, 1919; CO 3 Gen Hosp Oct 1940–May 1945; DMS 2 NZEF May–Oct 1945.

I have no date of death though.

T.J King is another enigma, I have a picture of him but little else...

Hi Zapphod,

You are correct about Gower. His full name was George William Gower. He died in 1974. Still has to find the exact date.
