Axis History Forum

This is an apolitical forum for discussions on the Axis nations, as well as the First and Second World Wars in general hosted by Marcus Wendel's Axis History Factbook in cooperation with Michael Miller's Axis Biographical Research, Christoph Awender's WW2 day by day, Dan Reinbold's Das Reich and Christian Ankerstjerne's Panzerworld.

Hello all,

My name's Brian, 44 yo and I've been trolling this site literally for years and thought I'd finally introduce myself. I live in the Pacific NW of the U.S. and have been an avid history fan of all eras since I can remember. My favorite of course being WW2, but will read just about anything related to the Napoleonic Wars and WW1 as well.

When I'm not working my day job as an international banker, I also enjoy hiking, scale model building and reading sci-fi. Even though I prefer reading about the European theater of the war, ironically my family is more closely linked to the Pacific one. My grandfather was a civilian contractor for the Navy during the attack on Pearl Harbor and survived being strafed. Since I deal a lot with Pac-Rim countries through my job, I had the opportunity several years ago to work in Japan where I met my wife. Turns out her father was a member of the Sendai Division which fought at Guadalcanal and recounted the horrors of fighting there. To my wife's surprise, it was the first time she heard him say anything about his wartime experiences. I was pretty much the first Westerner he had ever spoken to since the war and he wanted to unburden himself of many repressed memories which still nag at him today.

Some day I hope to relate more information and perhaps this forum is the idea place to start. Cheers!

Hi everyone, my name is Scott, and I just found this site.

I'm 40, and lived 12 years in Germany, married to a wonderful german woman. 2 years ago I lost her to a drunk driver on the A6, and decided to come back to the U.S. where I'm originally from.
Doesn't feel the same anymore, and I miss home, but I'm digressing. I, for whatever reason, had an interest for Germany since I was a child, and fell so for the history, and the culture, that I moved there at age 26.
I thought that I'd satisfy my desire to learn more about the war by being there. But as I'm sure many on this forum know, its not a well liked subject.
I look forward to reading whats here, and maybe pitching in when theres something I know.

tschüss for now,

Scott

hi--my name is Irina and i am searching for relatives from east prussia! I have just recently found my nephews and nieces in germany from my brother Gunter Assmann-- My mother came from Angerapp East Prussia and said one time grandfathers brother came to the United States in the early 1900's and they lost contact with him and no one knew where he went--so Assmann any Assmanns in United States might be related to me also--Anyone with that last name please contact me--we might be related--you never know--I find trying to follow my mothers steps during her captured by the russians fascinating--she never said much except going thru poppy fields and then to the concentration camp where she was kept 4 yrs after the war--i want to see the holes she had to crawl thru to bring those trees into the coal mines--this has been driving me insane for the last year and i dont know why--maybe i have a brother there also--my cousin let it slip out when he visited a few years ago--maybe i am the one who brings the whole family together after being thrown all over the world--just maybe you never know--well you all have a great day ciao :D

Hello. I am 50 yrs. old, and I reside in USA near Hershey Pa. Which besides being the home of Hershey Chocolates and HersheyPark, a world renowned Amusement Park, is also the home of Major Richard "Dick" Winters, of Easy Company, 2nd. Battalion, 506th.Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st. Airborne Division. (Band Of Brothers) My Father had the honor of counting Dick Winters as one of his friends, and our family had the honor of Dick Winters attending my Fathers funeral in 1999 at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetary. I am married to a lovely woman named Sherry. She owns her own business where I help out at from time to time. I am on 100% service related disability so I have a lot of free time on my hands. I went back to school last year working on my Bachelors in Engineering, my disability limits my class-room time though, so I am definately not on the fast track for graduation. My Father was a Croatian and my Mother was Scotch-Irish and Cherokee, One side didn't get to the US until the 20th.Century, the other has roots that stretch too the mid 18th. Century in America. From my Mother I got my love of Family, of Learning, and of History. From my Father I got my love of service to country and of duty. I look forward to contributing to the forum any way I can, and I also look forward to learning all that I can from it.

Hi everyone,

It's great to have found this site. I'm Chilean, 33, currently living in the South of Chile. I work as an Interpreter.

WWII has fascinated me ever since my teens. I've watched most of the movies set in the period, my favorite being "The NIght of Generals", directed by Anatole Litvak back in the sixties (Peter O'Toole and Omar Shariff starring).

I've read my share on the subject. Special books that caught my attention were "Is Paris Burning" by Collins and LaPierre which deals with Hitlers command to completely destroy Paris so the Allies wouldn't get their hands on it and the ensuing liberation of Paris, and "A Man Called Intrepid" authored by W. Stevenson, which is a biography of Sir William Stephenson, British spymaster during WWII.

I've recently seen Der Untergang (2004) by Oliver Hirschbiegel with Bruno Ganz as Hitler. It really spiked my curiosity once again and somehow that led to this site.

I look forward to browsing the subjects and learning!

Hi everyone, I'm a boy from Guatemala, and I'm very pleased to be a member of the AHF.

a bit of me.
I was introduce in the WW2 theme, by having a little friendship with a veteran of the Wehrmacht, His name was Helmut Schmuck, he died almost 6 years, and he told me the way of life in germany during Hitler's regime, the desperation in battle, the lack of hope, and anything you can imagine from an awnfull war, and I become interested in the matter, war chronology, weapons, armored vehicles, etc. My entire fascination grows in the heroism of the two sides, allied and axis,(with this comment I don't want to be marked as a NS), the elegance of the uniforms, the brilliant war strategies, the comradery, etc.

In the ordinary life, I work in the chemical laboratory, of a sugar mill, I'm studying Industrial engineering, and I play football soccer, and I love the beer.

Hi,

I'm an Australian living in Scotland since 1993, and have had an interest in the Third Reich since the 1960s. I have been collecting original Third Reich photographs and albums (and other paraphernalia along the way) since the 1980s. My work career has alternated between advertising agencies (design and copywriting) and newspapers (design and journalism).

Married to an Australian girl of German parentage, we now have six children, four of whom were born in Scotland. For the last six years I have been involved with the editorial and production of a local lifestyle publication, The North Magazine. Those interested can see it here http://www.north-magazine.com

I'm also the joint owner of 20,000 glass plate photo negatives featuring portraits of Scottish Highlanders taken in the 1920s and 1930s. Anyone on the forum with Scottish ancestry from the Highlands might want to take a look at the archive. (It's just been launched with only 500 or so images online at the moment). Just key in your surname. http://www.scottishhighlanderphotoarchive.co.uk

I've also recently launched a website to promote a new magazine for collectors of Third Reich photographs, and have been invited to add the link in the Related Websites section of the forum.
