Hi All,
My name is Bernie from Staffordshire. My father died last week and I was trying to put together a few words for his funeral in a couple of days. He served with the German Army, in Police Battalion Riga on the Eastern Front. As a result of trying to get the correct spelling of his POW camp in Belgium, I stumbled upon this web site - fascinating. Have only had time to quickly read about the battle at Welikije Luki, which he frequently mentioned.
Have always been interested in military history, Visited Albert, Somme last year and off to Flanders in 3 weeks time. Would be very interested in a definitive history of his unit. Visited Riga in May of this year where I found photos of his unit on display in the Museum of Occupation (might have been the War Museum).

I'm 18 years old and Enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

History is my passion, I love everything from Napoleon to Modern politics. Wargaming is my hobby, and from there I began writing my own games, some of which were published in a Comic-Convention when I was 17, it was about the Battle of Gettysburg. I recolour German photos from World War Two, because I believe it helps people reach a greater understanding, and build a more healthy and emotional relation to the soldiers. I speak some German, and also enjoy translating German Marching songs into singable-English versions (beat wise).

Hello!

I am a retired American researching my German/Irish ancestors. When not doing that, I take care of chickens, strawberries, tomatoes, and wildlife on 1.5 acres in a small rural Washington state community. I love rock n roll music. Mother was an aufseherrin, opa was BOGOHL VIII and reichswehr after that, his sister-in-law's brother was an jewish american pow at stalagluft 1, his father-in-law was passau SA. Of what significance is '1/RJ29" on his brownshirt collar? Most of that information came to me in the past two years and I'm anxious to learn more . . .Kathy

kathy: Have a look at this material on the Rote Jungfront.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotfrontk%C3%A4mpferbund
Actually, I don't think that it is applicable, as it seems to have been a Communist organisation.
It could be "Reichs-something". Needs more lateral thinking.

Thank you, Dachhase

I asked the question again in the NSDAP forum of AH and Mike Miller responded: "The units full name was Reserve-Jäger-Standarte 29. It was based in Deggendorf." If anyone knows anything more about this unit, I'd love to hear it.

Please keep the discussion on that unit in the existing thread at viewtopic.php?f=45&t=192411 instead of this thread so we can have this for introductions, thanks.
