Hi all,

A nice image of a german soldier with diverse equipment: I think a balloon theodolite, a Feldfernsprecher 33 feldtelefon and a cable drum

I've been trying to identify this type of French acoustic detector for a while. I think it was the Perrin system that replaced the Baillaud acoustic "mirror" at the end of WW1.

Hi Henning

I agree with you about the equipment being an air compressor.
I think the unit is a Pioneer unit. The soldier in the full uniform does not appear to have a different colour of piping on his shoulder strap, indicating a very dark colour. The Pioneers wore black Waffenfarbe which in a black and white photo does not show up against the dark green of the shoulder strap.

It is a pity that there is not much on the equipment used by engineers and pioneers by all the armies of WW2. Photos of the bridges they built etc. seem to dominate their recorded work.
