Dunno much about uniforms but the one closest to camera appears to don a standard Heer uniform and several others Kradmelder coats and goggles.

The soldiers are unusual for they are neither Fallschirm nor Gebirgs the people who I'd expect to be manning these guns. Without looking it up I don't know of any other units to use them so these men should be easy to track down.

We can narrow it down just a bit further. By looking at the "Waffenfarbe" on the shoulder and on the "Schiffchen", we might not go too wrong to assume this is an artillery unit. After all the poster "ain92" said the photo is labeled as artillery.

Goerz sound locator has been discussed here: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0&t=122741

Device is described in details in patent applications:

Improvements in the method of and apparatus for determining the instantaneous position and the speed and direction of movement of invisible air craft by exclusively acoustic means - GB289872 (A) 1929-07-02
Verfahren und Vorrichtung zur Bestimmung der Bahnelemente nicht sichtbarer Luftfahrzeuge auf rein akustischer Grundlage - AT113793 (B) 1929-07-10

There were several subsequent patents (also available online) before the device was put into production.

for me it looks like a portable air compressor.

whats your opinion?

and what is it for a unit? RAD or engineer?
Hi Henning

I agree with you about the equipment being an air compressor.
I think the unit is a Pioneer unit. The soldier in the full uniform does not appear to have a different colour of piping on his shoulder strap, indicating a very dark colour. The Pioneers wore black Waffenfarbe which in a black and white photo does not show up against the dark green of the shoulder strap.

It is a pity that there is not much on the equipment used by engineers and pioneers by all the armies of WW2. Photos of the bridges they built etc. seem to dominate their recorded work.

Clive
Hi Clive,

first, thank you for the infos about the Marinefährpram.

I think you are also very interessting in pioneer equipement. I get a new information about this portable compressor, its from Holger Erdmann.
For me its a great info ;-)

best regards
Henning
