Adcock Kjevik

#1

Found five or six of these fundaments outside Kjevik, and was wondering if they were could be for Adcock. Seen some similar photos from gyges.dk, but the "LN-puzzle" isn't exactly easy! I have conflicting views from local eyewitnesses that says it was a pre-war radio beacon, another argues that it was built during the war. On a intelligence report it states that the area has a radio direction finder. The Masts were torn down around the 50's or 60's.

Any opinons?

Hi,
Did you only find one or two? There ought to be six or eight. Anyway the insulator is typical of WW 2 German radio mast where the mast itself is the antenna. Similar insulators have been found in Norway in Adcock sites. Please check Kystfortet Forum.

I didn't take pictures of the other four or five other fundaments as they were all similar in size. There are no remains of a operator's hut or other. Yes, I have seen the thread about Ørlandet: http://www.kystfort.com/forum/topic2304.html
But the problem is that dimensions on these are somewhat smaller than those pictured on Ørlandet. Did the Adcock always stand on the same line as the runway? Could they have been for another kind of signal system? There were also two Lorenz masts about 6 km north of the airfield.

A bad scan showing the masts.

Hi,
The Adcock was not used as a precision approach aid, but for area navigation. At Grove it was located 5 km south of the airfield. Six similar foundations clearly indicates an Adcock.

Thanks. The "thing" is that was a other transmitter about 1km north of todays runway that the german called "Sender Ryen". Here they also had about 3 or 5 masts, one old local argues that this was the forerunner to the L484 built in 1944 west of the Airfield and that the antennas/mast at "Sender Ryen" were demolished after the construction of the L484. So if this could another candidate for Adcock at Kjevik, I really don't know ;)

No this is clearly the Flg.Hrst. Funk Sende Stelle used for W/T and R/T communication.

OK, but could then the recieving part be placed at the L484? since eyewitnesses talks about antenneas located there. And was not there some kind of rule that the recieving and transmitting part had to be placed some distance of each other to avoid interference?

It is my understanding from studies of the Flg.Hrst in Denmark that both the transmitter and the receiver were located in the L 484 and the antennas were the same.

Thanks again. Do you know if there were a standard crew setup for a L484?

Hi,
The three masts are typical of a Funksende Stelle, but a similar configuration was also used for Funkfeuer
