hello,

About radar used with the V-2 operations the following
The FuMG 64 system Hörnchen was used along the baltic coast to opserve the rockets fired from Peenemunde.
They did fire along the coastline and the radar was used to opserve the flight of the rocket.

We think that the German radar post Biber with the long range Wurzburg in Oostvoorne was used to observe the flight of the rocket towards London.

With kind regards

Bert Koopman
member of the V-2 site team.

and this last one is British... they didn't quit get the concept right :D (actually it dates back to 1919 and has no electric circuits what so ever, it exsist solely out of concrete and metal. It was build to detect airplanenoise before it was visible, but as the planes got faster and their speed exceeded the speed of sound (soundbariere) these 'listeningshells' lost their use).

Hi,
I just had another look at the FuMG 64 picture, and I have never seen the object on the back of the antenna before. If it was a modern system I would say that it was an optical tracking device, but this is not likely.

Hi Sturm,
Thanks for sharing. Photos of this radar on a SdAH 204 are quite rare.

Hi SES

Sorry the last pic of Sturm shows a A2 Trailer ( like the radar in the IWM London) not a SdAh 204. I think here in the thread are more pics with the A2 trailer.
In one of your first posts is a A2 trailer with a unusual superstructur ,
is it possible to get a clearer pic with a little bit more informations?

best regards

Henning

Hi Henning,
Thanks for the clarification. The "thing" on top in my picture is a Freya radar, with the antanna removed and the mounting lowered - and I don't have this picture in a better quality, but I do have this.
