I don't know exactly what they are called. While Googling military things, I ran across a mention of Military sections that had the responsibility of processing animal carcasses into meat rations for the troops. Apparently the trucks were equipped as a butchering shop.
Would any of you know what they were called?
Military butcher trucks?
Re: Military butcher trucks?
Papa G,
They would be called Butcher or Slaughter companies.
See here:
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/Germany/HB/HB-6.html
"(1) A butchery platoon can process the following number of animals per day.
40 beef cattle equal to 40,000 meat rations.
80 pigs equal to 24,000 meat rations.
240 sheep equal to 19,000 meat rations.
(2) A field bakery company can produce between 15,000 and 19,200 bread rations, according to the weather and the time of the year. After passing through the rations supply points of the division units, the supplies finally reach field kitchens and troops. Field kitchens of two types are found: large, with a capacity for supplying 125 to 225 men; and small, with a capacity for supplying 60 to 125 men."
There were specialized cooler trailers/power units and bakery trailers/dough mixers also.
Hope this is what you were looking for.
Regards,
Rand

Re: Military butcher trucks?
The German Army also had butcher battalions which were GHQ units, held at Army and Army Group level.
They consisted of a headquarters, two processing companies, and an operations company.
KStN 1285 Stab, Schlächterei-Abteilung (Headquarters, Butcher Battalion) — fully motorized.
KStN 1287 Fleischverarbeitungs-Kompanie (Meat Processing Company) — truck-borne. Vehicles from Operations Company.
KStN 1288 Schlächtereibetriebs-Kompanie (Butcher Operations Company) — fully motorized.
The two Meat Processing Companies slaughtered, and produced sausages, smoked ham, as well as meat in cans.
The Butcher Operations Company provided backup. It had a Worker Platoon, (with specialists such as milkers, masons, carpenters, etc.), and a Technical Platoon, the latter provided the specialized equipment, as well as motor vehicles and drivers to distribute the meat products. This platoon also provided motor vehicles to the Meat Processing Companies. It had the following vehicles:
2 cars (light);
2 vans (light);
10 trucks (medium);
1 wheeled tractor (heavy — 100 HP);
5 trailers (two-axle — 3.5-ton);
3 trailers (diesel powered ice makers);
8 trailers (refrigerator — Sd.Ah. 107);
4 trailers (generator — 220/380 Volts, DC, 36 kVA).
Cheers
