Hitler's special train
Hitlers train
Here are some quotes from a book:
From the book ”the HG Panzer Division” by Alfred Otte Schiffer Publishing ltd 1989. ISBN 0-88740-206-2
“The Railroad Defense Trains
Many heads of state, Hitler as well, used a train consisting of a salon car, dining car, sleeping car and baggage car for long journeys “
“To defend against low level air attacks, each special train was assigned two Flak defense cars which traveled as the first and last cars of the train. On each of these defense cars were two 2 cm Flak guns-later four barreled. The gun crews had their quarters in the defense cars, they had five compartments with movable bunks. The number of crew of a defense cars was seventeen men, consisting of one Zugfuhrer ( platoon leader ), Halbzugfuhrer ( assistant platoon leader ), medical corps man, two chief gunners and twelve gunners. Each defense car contained a large freight area in its center which was closed in by three removable doors on each side. This area was used to store ammunition, weapons, equipment and baggage. In addition to the defense cars, the special train, depending on its purpose, consisted of eleven to sixteen cars. It was pulled by two locomotives; for longer trips or steep inclines another locomotiv was used to push, at the end of the train.
The Flak crews for the two trains “Zug Reichmarchall I” and “Zug Reichmarschall II” as well as for the trains “Zug Fuhrer” and “Zug Reichaussenminister” ( foreign minister ) were provided by the RGG ( Regiment General Göring ). They were named “Wachkommando ( guard detachment ) Sonderzug ( special train ) Reichmarschall I” etc, and were initially contained in the 9./RGG, especially for this purpose in summer 1939.”

Hitler's special train...
As I recall, a book called "Hitler's Headquarters" had some photos and a make-up of the train regarding locomotives, staff cars, AA cars, living quarters, etc.

Re: Hitler's special train
Apparently later in the war, in early 1943, it's codename was changed from "Amerika" (arguably "Erika") to "Brandenburg". It spent a lot of the later years of the war parked up at or near Rastenburg, and the accomodation coaches were burnt by the retreating Wehrmacht in 1945 - although the other coaches were reused commercially for another two decades at least.

Re: Hitler's special train
Anything on where the surviving coaches, gun cars, and engine are or what happened to them?

Re: Hitler's special train
A friend of mine has a key attached to a brass nameplate that has "Begleiterraum" on one side translated "companions room or space" and on the other side has the number "Wagen NR. 10221".
Can anyone help me identify what train or coach this may have come from or where I can do more research?
Thanks Mike
